Hard drive specialist WiebeTech has announced the fourth generation of its Forensic ComboDock. The forensic docks allow forensic examiners to download and image contents of a suspect drive in the field or lab without risk of data being written back to the drive. Of significant note in the latest version is the ability for investigators to image suspect 3.5-inch IDE drives through USB as well as FireWire 800 (400 compatible). According to the company, the Forensic ComboDock v4 can be attached to any IDE drive (or even SATA drive, using an optional adapter) and powered via a +12V adapter (included) or via a standard disk drive 4-pin molex power source. A Fourth Generation Forensic Notebook DriveDock and Forensic SATADock will be available in coming weeks.
