Gamebrew has published Rage of Magic II, a game that harkens back to the classic era of 2D kicking and punching fighting games — titles like Double Dragon, Golden Axe and Battletoads. Available for Mac OS X, Linux and Windows, Rage of Magic II costs $19.95, and an online trial and downloadable demo version are both available.
The game features a twisting and turning plot involving paladins and knights, princesses and kings, masters of magic and dark arts. Players can assume the wrong of different characters equipped with giant weapons and magical powers, that they’ll use against their enemies as they complete 35 different levels in the arcade mode, complete with a story line and interstitial movie sequences.
A two-player mode includes 100 arena levels full of bosses. The game also features online high score tracking. And like classic fighting games of old, there are plenty of bonuses to pick up, to recover health and magic points, increase “rage” power and more. You’ll also discover “Combo” attacks, “Super” moves, special blocking techniques, resistance attacks and other moves along the way.
Rage of Magic II is available for the Mac as a Universal binary. System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.4 or later.
