Addonics Technologies on Thursday introduced Cipher Ultra DigiDrive (UDD), a hardware-based encryption reader and writer used to secure data on Flash media. It’s priced from $79 to $175 depending on interface and media support..
The Cipher UDD encrypts data on the fly using a hardware key. Encrypted Flash media appears as blank media if it’s accessed by other devices. Equipped with a standard Type II PCMCIA slot, which enables it to work with PCMCIA hard drives and ATA flash clards. Addonics provides adapters to convert other flash media — a CF “DigiAdapter” and “4-in-1 CUDD DigiAdapter” are available either separately or as a bundle.
The CF DigiAdapter lets the Cipher UDD read and write CompactFlash media; the 4-in-1 CUDD Adapter works with CompactFlash, Smart Media, Memory stick, Secure Digital Card, MultiMedia Card or Micro Drive.
The base model Cipher UDD includes 64-bit encryption, a USB 2.0 interface, cable, cipher key and drive CD. Other models are available with 128-bit encryption, additional flash card interfaces and eSATA.
