DropTeam, the multiplayer tactical combat game for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux operating systems from
BattleFront.com, added infantry squads with an update to version 1.1. Battlefront.com also dropped the base price of the game to $35 for both the downloadable and mail-delivered versions; DropTeam originally cost $45.
DropTeam 1.1 adds three new squad types representing lightly armored troops, with medium range jump packs and equipped with an assortment of beam, rifled, and heavy weapons. Battlefront.com promises that more squad types are on the way.
In addition, Battlefront.com announced that it’s begun work on a World War II expansion for DropTeam that will put players in command of WWII tanks, infantry, and guns in a detailed environment populated by up to 16 players on one of two sides. Each player commands a single unit at a time, coordinating with teammates to win battles. Players can also use the commander’s interface on an overall tactical map to issue orders in the style of a traditional real-time strategy game.
Battlefront.com promises more details on the expansion, tentatively titled DropTeam—WW2, later this summer.
