Mudcraft is a new shareware real-time strategy game that features casual, non-violent play. What’s more, it was made on the Mac, according to its producer, Brian Winn. It costs $20.
In Mudcraft, you have to work with Mother Nature as you build a strong Mud community. It takes place in a grassy back yard, where light shines down on a mud pit and life emerges. You must direct the mud folk to gather dirt and water from around the world to bring back to the mud pit; that creates more mud people, who in turn can gather more resources.
As the game progresses, each level features unique goals and objectives, though the core goal remains the same: To grow and sustain your mud community.
Just because it’s nonviolent doesn’t mean that Mudcraft is without challenges: Mud people face obstacles such as excessive rain or intense sunlight, frogs and more.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.2 or later, G4 or better, 256MB RAM, 800 x 600 screen resolution. An Internet connection is required to activate the game and a two-button mouse is recommended.
A five-level demo is available for download; to unlock the other 40 levels, you can purchase an activate code.
