NewTek used this week’s SIGGRAPH trade show in Boston, Mass. to publicly unveil a “technology preview” of LightWave 3D on Intel Macs. New to this release of the company’s 3D modeling, animation and rendering software is Universal binary support for Intel and PowerPC-based Macs. The new software’s availability will be announced at a later date, according to NewTek.
NewTek President Jay Roth said that Intel-based Macs running a native version of LightWave v9 provide major speed and performance improvements for LightWave users. “This new technology also opens doors for us to make significant enhancements to LightWave expressly for the Mac community.”
LightWave v9 is already available for PowerPC-based Macs. It costs $795 for the full version, $395 to upgrade from previous releases. NewTek did not indicate the upgrade path for Universal binaries.
