Phill Ryu on Monday announced My Dream App, a new competition that invites contestants to submit their best ideas for a “killer app” for Mac OS X. Contestants can earn prizes including Macs and iPods, and will have their ideas judged by industry luminaries including Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.
The initial entries will be narrowed down to two dozen finalists by the My Dream App development team. Visitors to the My Dream App Web site will then decide which app ideas remain in the competition and which get eliminated until just three remain.
Guest judges including Wozniak, New York Times columnist and author David Pogue, former Apple Evangelist Guy Kawasaki and Digg.com founder Kevin Rose will provide feedback to help finalists hone their ideas.
The development team will then turn the three winning ideas into reality. The My Dream App development team includes Unsanity’s Jason Harris, AppZapper maker Austin Sarner and SubEthaEdit’s Martin Ott. Development will be managed by iClip creator John Casasanta.
Submissions are open from August 21 – 30, 2006. Finalists will be announced and the first week of user voting will start on September 21, 2006.
