The Macworld Podcast hits the big 5-0, with another look at the new Mac Pro and a back-to-school extravaganza.
Apple released the Intel-based Mac Pro a little more than two weeks ago, and since then, Macworld has covered the desktop from every angle, including FAQs, video tours, and initial benchmarks. And even though, we’ve posted our review of the 2.66GHz Mac Pro Quad, our tests continue—Macworld Lab has finished initial testing a 3GHz system and Lab Director James Galbraith stops by the podcast to discuss the results.
After looking at the present hardware offerings from Apple, we take a spin back to the past. I discovered an audio cassette tour of the Macintosh from 1986 a few weeks back, and I’ve included a few excerpts from that audio file for your listening enjoyment.
I also check in with our good friend Senior Editor Christohper Breen, who tells us how to major in Mac when you go off to college. He’s got suggestions for which Mac you should choose and why.
And to close out the show, there’s an audio question from Rich Dixon of Santa Barbara, Calif., about the new XServes. Jason Snell serves up the answer.
Our 50th podcast is a landmark for another reason—it marks my final appearance as the host of the podcast, as I leave Macworld to pursue other opportunities. I’d like to take the time to bid farewell to all of you loyal listeners and to thank you for all of your feedback and support the past year. I’ve done my best to make the show as good as I possibly can, and I hope you’ll continue to listen when the Macworld Podcast returns in a few weeks with the 51st episode.
