Soft Solutions has introduced a public beta version of 4-Sight FAX Version 7, its network fax server software for Mac OS X. New to this release is Universal binary support for Intel and PowerPC-based machines and support for more internal modem models.
4-Sight FAX enables networked computer users to send and receive faxes using a single system as their point of communication. TCP/IP Internet connects let authorized users send and retrieve faxes from anywhere. The software supports multiple lines of throughput, support for any application that works with their fax printer driver, password security and other features.
Version 7 supports all Intel-based Mac servers, including the forthcoming Quad Xeon Xserve model. Modem support now includes Apple’s internet modem, USB modem and Multitech’s 5634ZBA-DID Router/Modem, among others.
Other changes have also been made: Direct client access is now supported by the Server Address Book, so you can add, edit and delete server-based address book entries. Import speed has been “dramatically” improved, according to Soft Solutions. Users can customize fax printing options, new archive and search tools have been added, and archived faxes can be viewed in either TIFF or PDF format. Server-side Receipt Confirmation has been added, new editing tools are now included and much more.
Soft Solutions anticipates a September, 2006 release for the final version — in the interim, you can download the public beta. Pricing starts at $575 and runs up from there depending on the number of users. 4-Sight FAX client runs on Mac OS 9.2 or later. Version 7 has planned support for Mac OS X v10.5 “Leopard” as well.
