File recovery software maker SubRosaSoft has released a freeware Mac OS X utility called MusicRenamer. It renames MP3, AAC, M4P and M4A files in a consistent format.
MusicRenamer utilizes the ID3 tags embedded in music files to rename them — it uses the artist’s name, album, track number and song title. The technology is based on a feature found in SubRosaSoft’s commercial application file salvage, and the developer noted that it’s a “must use” on songs restored from file recovery software.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3 or later.
