My Dream App is an online contest to have your idea realized as a Macintosh shareware application. On Wednesday the contest’s coordinators announced its first batch of finalists.
First announced in August, the contest has garnered more than 2,700 idea submissions from hopeful entrants who hoped to see their ideas turned into a real application. Two dozen finalists will compete to have their ideas turned into a real product.
Celebrity judges will help determine the viability of each idea — judges include Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, Digg founder Kevin Rose and Delicious Library developer Wil Shipley. Once the field is narrowed to three finalists — with the help of public voting — three teams of veteran developers will then turn the ideas into applications.
The first three finalists include “Herald,” an newsreading application that presents sections similar to a virtual newspaper, with publishing characteristics not unlike iWeb; Stick-It, a sticky note application that lets notes be attached in apps, menus or windows; and Desktop Wars, a real-time strategy game that uses the Mac OS X desktop as a battlefield, with support for mouse, voice and motion sensor.
Additional finalists will be announced each day through September 15th — elimination of the finalists begins on September 18th.
