Long time Macintosh developer Bare Bones Software on Thursday released a major upgrade for its flagship product, BBEdit. Among the 160 new features and enhancements, BBEdit 8.5 includes support for the Ruby, SQL and YAML languages.
The new version of BBEdit includes an interface overhaul. While keeping the familiar look and feel that has made BBEdit what it is today, the company has streamlined navigation and the preferences window, making it easier to find what you are looking for.
“For BBEdit 8.5, we’ve taken a huge leap forward in interface polish and usability, increasing the potential for our customers to be more productive than ever,” said Rich Siegel, founder and CEO of Bare Bones Software
BBEdit 8.5 introduces code folding, which aids comprehension of complex files by allowing the customer to collapse ranges of text. Predefined ranges are generated on a language-sensitive basis, and the user can also fold any arbitrary range of text.
Text Factories now feature HTML Format, Translate and Tidy actions for easier automation of repetitive web site maintenance and development tasks. A new Auto-save option, with an adjustable save interval, helps safeguard work in the event of a power outage or system failure.
BBEdit 8.5 is available for $125. Registered owners of BBEdit 8 can upgrade for $30; registered owners of BBEdit 7 and older can upgrade for $40. Anyone who purchased BBEdit on or after January 1, 2006 is eligible to receive a free upgrade.
