G-Technology on Friday unveiled new Mac-compatible high-speed storage systems, including its G-Speed S, an Ultra320 SCSI-based system aimed at video pros, the G-Speed XL, a rack-mountable 4Gbit Fibre Channel system, G-RAID mini, a portable RAID system, and G-RAID2, a triple-interface RAID system featuring SATA II drives.
The G-Speed S supports multi-stream Standard Definition (SD) and HD workflows up to 10-bit 1080/60i. Storage capacities are available up to 4.5 terabytes (TB) using Serial ATA (SATA) II hard disk drives, with sustained data transfer rates of up to 250 MB/sec. Browser-based RAID configuration and management software is available via a built-in Ethernet port, and the system can support RAID Levels 0, 1, 3, 5 and 6. It also features hot-swappable drive modules and fans, with a redundant power supply as an option. Prices start at $2,999, with availability in October.
G-Speed XL is designed to support high-end video production with full RAID support and storage capacities up to 12 TB. The system works using a dual-channel 4Gbit Fibre Channel interface capable of sustained data rates up to 680MB per second. Like the G-Speed S, the XL supports RAID 0, 1, 3, 5 and 6, and can e-mail admins in the event of a failure. It comes in a 3U rack mountable enclosure with hot-swappable disk drive modules and fans, removable RAID controllers and redundant power supplies. It will be available in October starting at $7,999.
The G-RAID mini is a portable RAID especially designed for Mac and PC laptops. It features FireWire 400, FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 support. The system uses SATA II hard disk drives and supports multi-stream DV, HDV, DVCPRO HD and uncompressed video workflows. When powered through the FireWire bus, there’s no need for an external power supply. The G-RAID mini has capacities up to 320GB, starts at $499 and is coming in October.
The G-RAID 2 is a desktop RAID system that also features a triple interface. It uses 7200 RPM SATA II hard disk drives, with storage capacities up to 1.5TB. It’s available now starting at $369.
