Intego on Tuesday announced VirusBarrier Server and VirusBarrier Mail Gateway. The Mac OS X software provides server-based protection from viruses. Availability and pricing will be announced in the fourth calendar quarter of 2006.
VirusBarrier Server scans every file that’s copied to a computer running Mac OS X Server. The software also checks files are that are launched on that computer. If infected files are found, it quarantines them, then passes information to administrators to let them know. It can also run scheduled scans of local and network volumes.
VirusBarrier Mail Gateway is designed to work with Mac OS X Server’s built-in e-mail server. It works similarly, scanning every e-mail message that passes through the server, looking for infected attachments, quarantining e-mail that doesn’t pass muster and advising e-mail administrators of problems.
Both software applications are Universal binaries that run natively on Intel or PowerPC-based Macs, and feature automatic update support through Intego’s NetUpdate X4 software.
