Splunk on Monday announced the release of Splunk 2.1, a new version of their log and IT data search engine. The new version adds distributed search capabilities, performance improvements and more. Splunk pricing starts at $2,500 per year.
Splunk is used by network administrators, IT managers, engineers and others who have a need to perform real-time searches through production logs and IT data. You can search data from any application, server and network device, and even compare that information online against knowledgebases and other content to learn more about what it means.
New in this release of Splunk are performance improvements, with indexing speeds ranging from 20,000 to 120,000 events per second. You can apply distributed search through multiple data centers, using information merged and presented using Asynchronous Javascript and XML (AJAX) technology. Splunk now requires 40 percent less storage capacity for indexes. Administration has been enhanced, developer APIs expanded and more.
