Sony on Tuesday took the wraps off its DRX-830UL-T, an external DVD burner that supports dual-layer or double-layer discs. Equipped with FireWire (known as ‘i.Link’ in Sony parlance) as well as USB 2.0, the drive is coming in December for about $120 after a $30 mail-in rebate, according to Sony.
The DRX-830-UL-T comes bundled with Roxio Toast 6 Lite software for Mac users; it also includes Nero for Windows users. It supports both dual-layer and double-layer DVDs, which can burn up to 8.5GB of data on a single disc at up to 8x. DVD+ and -R media can be burnt at up to 18x speed. The drive also supports DVD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM, CD-RW and CD-R recording.
The drive is compatible with Mac OS X v10.2 or later. Measures are 2.0 x 6.5 x 9.8 inches.
