Iogear has introduced its Germ Free Wireless Laser Mouse, a Mac and PC-compatible mouse that Iogear claims protects users against 99 percent of bacteria and viruses.
The mouse features two buttons and a scrollwheel, and is covered in a special coating that neutralizes harmful microbes on the mouse’s surface, according to the manufacturer. The coating uses Titanium Dioxide and Silver nano-particle compound to deactivate enzymes and proteins. It uses a Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) as a light source, which provides 30 times more tracking power than a mouse that uses a conventional optical sensor at a resolution of 1600 dots per inch (DPI).
What’s more, the mouse uses a USB transmitter and it works on almost any surface, including glass. Iogear says the mouse works up to six feet away from the transmitter, and includes an on/off switch to save power. It’s powered by two AAA batteries.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.2 or later.
