Apple is previewing an update to the webmail component of its .Mac service that will bring the Web client more in line with the Mail application included with Mac OS X v10.4 “Tiger.” Apple said it’s coming soon.
.Mac webmail enables you to read your .Mac e-mail messages using a supported Web browser on any Mac or Windows PC that’s connected to the Internet — you don’t need to configure a local e-mail client, just sign in to your account online.
New features in .Mac webmail will include a new interface, drag and drop support, the ability to view messages in a message pane right below the message list, smart refreshes that keep page reloads to a minimum, a quick reply feature, fully integrated Address Book, message previews, single-click message flagging and new keyboard shortcuts.
.Mac is Apple’s subscription-based online service that helps Mac users synchronize content between multiple machines, backup data, publish Web pages, manage e-mail groups and more — including a repository for online files and a mac.com e-mail account. It costs $99.95 per year.
