Softpress Systems has released updates to
4.3 and Freeway Express — its visual Web page editors for Mac OS. The free update produces pages that are more compatible with Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) version 6. Both updates are free for registered users. Freeway Pro costs $279; Freeway Express costs $99.
Freeway features a drag and drop interface not unlike a page layout application. The software lets you place images, text, QuickTime videos and other content where you want on the page. It supports OpenType, can handle graphics conversions to Web-friendly formats, lets you build nested directories in a Site Panel, and much more, all without touching the underlying HTML page code.
The new Windows Compatibility Mode is on by default in Freeway Express and is a switchable option in Freeway Pro. When initiated, the Windows Compatibility Mode addresses the following issues, all specific to IE 6:
Unspecified heigh of a CSS box;
Doubled float margin;
Italic text box width bug.
Softpress has explained how Freeway fixes these issues in more depth
on its Web site.
