Belkin on Monday introduced the SportCommand for iPod, an armband wireless remote control that uses a fabric-based interface. It works with most dock connector-equipped iPods and costs $79.99; it’s coming in November.
The SportCommand straps to your arm while you keep your iPod safe and dry inside a backpack or jacket — it uses a Velcro closure strap. It’s designed for iPod users who want to listen to music while snowboarding, mountain biking or hiking — activities where you might get wet, but not totally submersed.
The surface of the SportCommand is manufactured using a fabric material called ElekTex, made by Eleksen — it’s been used on other clothing that features iPod controls, including suits and jackets. The remote allows you to play and pause, fast forward and rewind, and adjust volume levels up and down. It’s hand-washable and has a 50 foot range.
Belkin notes the SportCommand is compatible with iPod nanos, iPod mini, Click Wheel-equipped iPods, iPod photo and video iPod models.
