Nova media on Wednesday announced an update to its launch2net software that enables the Novatel Merlin XU870 ExpressCard modem to work in a MacBook Pro laptop. The software, Launch2net 1.4.9, costs €75 (US$94.11). It’s a free update for registered users.
Launch2net enables you to use your mobile phone, USB modem or PC datacard to make a mobile data connection. It features an automatic setup routine and already incorporates network settings to get the device to work with your Mac. Launch2net works with High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSPDA), Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), Enhanced Data GSM Environment (EDGE) and General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) networking protocols.
The XU870 is an ExpressCard modem that supports HSPDA with download speeds of up to 3.6 Megabits per second. HSPDA is used in the United States by Cingular’s BroadbandConnect network, and has seen adoption in many foreign countries.
