Infrant Technologies on Thursday announced the release of the ReadyNAS NV+, a Network Attached Storage (NAS) system with available capacities of up to 3 terabytes (TB). The new device features several enhancements for Mac users, including support for Apple’s zero-configuration Bonjour networking technology and improved Apple Filing Protocol (AFP) performance. Prices start at $650 for a “diskless” do-it-yourself system.
The ReadyNAS NV+ uses a quieter fan than previous ReadyNAS hardware and has a new LCD panel that displays status notifications. It’s expandable and scalable, featuring four hot-swap drive trays. The device is compatible with Mac OS X, Windows, Linux and Unix operating systems.
The ReadyNAS NV+ hooks up to the network using Gigabit Ethernet, and features Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) support, so it can work as a network-based storage system for digital media devices; it also features embedded SlimServer software for use with Squeezebox and Transporter from Slim Devices.
Additionally, the ReadyNAS NV+ includes a five-client license of Retrospect Professional from EMC Corp., for both Mac OS X and Windows users.
A fully populated 3TB ReadyNAS NV+ costs $2,999.
