Bare Bones Software on Thursday released BBEdit 8.5.1, a new version of their popular HTML and text editor for Mac OS X. Billed as a maintenance release of the software, 8.5.1 is recommended for all registered 8.5 users by the developer.
BBEdit touts grep pattern matching, search and replace across multiple files, function navigation, syntax coloring across a variety of source code languages, FTP and SFTP support, AppleScript and Unix scripting support and myriad other features.
The 8.5 release is the latest major milestone for BBEdit — it introduced more than 160 new features and improvements, a major interface overhaul and new option settings.
The 8.5.1 update offers new placeholders supported by the Clippings and HTML Updater systems, support for new mark syntax in the CSS function scanner, a navigation bar in the Shell Worksheet windows, and many more enhancements. A complete list of changes has been posted online.
BBEdit 8.5.1 requires Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later.
