Oprah Winfrey and U2 frontman Bono took away any surprise of Apple’s new iPod announcement as the pair went shopping today in Chicago and purchased 10 new red iPod nanos. Of course, Apple doesn’t have a red nano yet, but according to the Chicago Tribune a red nano will be introduced this week — at this point in the week, that must be tomorrow.
Apple is introducing the new nano as part of the Product Red campaign, which supports African AIDS relief. Sales of products and clothes bearing the label will go towards assisting the relief effort.
Apple last updated the iPod nano on September 12 during a special event in San Francisco. The iPod nanos are made from an aluminum enclosure that comes in several colors—blue, pink, green, silver and black. The 2GB nano comes in silver only, the 8GB model is only available in black, while the 4GB nano will be available in silver, pink, green and blue.
There was no information available on the capacity of the red iPod nano.
