Small Tree Communications is offering the PEG34m, an ExpressCard/34-based Gigabit Ethernet card that’s compatible with the MacBook Pro. The $79 card enables MacBook Pro users to add a second Gigabit Ethernet port to their systems.
The card features a foldable RJ-45 connector, and is also compatible with ExpressCard/34 slot-equipped PCs. With a second Gigabit Ethernet socket available, users can utilize 802.3ad link aggregation, according to Small Tree. By using multiple Ethernet network interfaces in parallel, users can increase the transfer rates of the computer beyond what either port can do by itself. The card also supports “Jumbo” frames up to 9000MTU.
The card is equipped with LED indicators that show the active link status — 1Gbps for blue, 100Mbps for green and 10Mbps for yellow. No external power supply is needed, and suspend power saving mode is supported.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.4.7 or later.
