G-Tech on Monday introduced new “iPod-enabled messenger bags” that feature built-in fabric iPod controls and integrated speakers. The G-Tech Messenger Bag costs $129 and will be available at retailers by mid-November.
G-Tech — not to be confused with hard disk drive maker G-Technology — is a subsidiary of GoodHopeBags. The company produces bags including the iPod Backpack and has also developed a Bluetooth-based wireless fabric keyboard used with PDAs and smartphones.
Like their other products, G-Tech’s new Messenger Bag relies on Eleksen’s ElekTex fabric technology to provide iPod connectivity — it’s a five-layer laminate of electrically conductive material that is designed as an electronic touchpad. It can get wet and still operate.
Spaces exist within the bag to store an iPod and a cell phone safe from the elements. The touchpad lets you control the iPod without removing it.
G-Tech’s Web site had not been updated with information about the new messenger bag as Playlist posted this article.
