Small Tree Communications on Monday introduced three new PCI Express-based Gigabit Ethernet cards for users of Power Mac G5, Mac Pro and Intel-base Xserve systems who need to expand their computers’ networking capacity. The new cards feature either four or six ports and are available for copper and optical networks.
The four-port copper PEG4 car offers four independent 10/100/1000base-T Gigabit Ethernet channels, while the PEG6 offers six independent Gigabit Ethernet channels. The $999 PEG6SFP GbE adapter features six independent Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) channels that can be customized with both optical and copper networking connections — you specify how you’d like it set up.
The cards support Jumbo frames and 802.3ad link aggregation, which enables computers to run multiple Ethernet ports in parallel to speed the flow of data over a network.
Small Tree includes highly optimized Mac OS X drivers, as well.
