ATTO Technology on Tuesday introduced a new line of Serial Attached SCSI (SAS)/Serial ATA (SATA)-based RAID adapters for Macs and PCs equipped with PCI Express (PCIe) expansion card slots. The ExpressSAS RAID adapters are presently available “for customer evaluation,” and are expected to go into general circulation in the first calendar quarter of 2007 for $1,095.
The ExpressSAS RAID adapters use a low-profile design that fits in standard-length PCIe slots, suitable for blade server applications. They’re equipped with hardware RAID Level 6 and 60 support, which protect users against dual drive failures.
What’s more, ExpressSAS RAID adapters can be configured with user-selectable port options. Supported features include hot swap, hot spares, online capacity expansion, battery backup, optimized disk utilization for SAS, SATA II or any combination of the two.
They’re Mac and PC-compatible, and work in Intel-based Macs with PCIe expansion slots.
