Centrix.ca has released NetworkLocation 1.0, a utility that helps simplify the use of Mac OS X network locations. It can change the settings you already manually set when you move your computer from one location to another. NetworkLocation costs $15.
Mac OS X’s Networking control panel already has a “Location” feature built into it, which lets you customize how your Macintosh networks with other computers and connects to the Internet depending on where you are. NetworkLocation extends that functionality beyond just network settings, however.
NetworkLocation can take specific actions when you switch locations, like automatically connecting to servers, setting your display brightness, changing volume and more. It works with existing Mac OS X location info, so you don’t have to start from scratch. It also features five graphical “themes” to suit your mood. It’s also extensible — you can add your own scripts to customize the actions it takes.
A trial version is available for download. NetworkLocation requires Mac OS X v10.4 or later.
