XtremeMac on Friday introduced the AirPlay Boost, an FM transmitter for Apple’s fifth-generation (video) iPod and second-generation iPod nano. The boost costs $69.95, and features an external antenna which XtremeMac claims increases signal strength.
The AirPlay Boost lets you listen to your iPod’s music on a nearby home, car or portable FM stereo. It works like other FM transmitters do: You tune in to an empty frequency on the FM dial, match it on the AirPlay Boost, and the listen your iPod’s music. The AirPlay Boost was designed to match the widgth of the iPod, as well, to reduce bulk.
An on-screen menu features three programmable station presets, and the AirPlay Boost is made in black or white to match the iPod’s color (black and silver are offered for the nano version, which is the same price). A pass-through dock connector enables you to use battery chargers or other devices.
XtremeMac said the AirPlay Boost will begin to ship on Nov. 20, 2006.
