Other World Computing (OWC) on Tuesday introduced a 200GB version of its Mercury On-the-Go FireWire 800/400+USB2 pocket external hard disk drive. The drive costs $379.99 and is available now.
The bus-powered drive utilizes an Oxford 924 bridge chipset and supports FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 — FireWire 400 works with a 9-to-6 pin cable (included). The drive measures 3 x 5.5 x 1 inches and weighs less than 11 ounces, according to OWC. On its backplane you’ll find two FireWire 800 ports, a USB 2.0 port, power switch and optional DC power input. Inside is a 4200RPM Serial ATA (SATA) hard disk drive mechanism with 8MB data buffer.
Included with the drive is EMC Retrospect backup software and Intech HD Speedtools utility software, USB 2.0, FireWire 400 and FireWire 800 cables, AC adapter and carrying case.
