Fujitsu on Monday unveiled a new version of its ScanSnap business scanner for Mac users — the ScanSnap S500M. The new scanner costs $495.
The ScanSnap converts documents to PDF files and also makes files readable by Word, Excel and powerPoint. It features optical resolution up to 600 dots per inch, reads in black and white or color, can handle A4 and custom paper sizes, and features an automatic document feeder that supports up to 50 sheets. It connects to the Mac using USB 2.0. The device also features a dual 600dpi color CCD optical array that allows it to scan both sides of a page.
The new S500M model is 20 percent faster than its predecessor, features automatic paper detection and a new design that better complements the Mac, according to Fujitsu. Also, Fujitsu is offering S500M buyers a mail-in rebate to get free copies of Readiris Pro v11 and Cardiris 3.5 from I.R.I.S. Group — document management software for scanned images.
The S500M works with Mac OS X v10.4 and PowerPC or Intel-based Macs. It scans at up to 18 pages per minute for single sided documents and 36 pages per minute for double sided documents.
Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard is included.
