WiebeTech on Wednesday announced two additions to its SilverSATA external drive line: A four-bay FireWire device and a five-bay SCSI enclosure. WiebeTech also has introduced a new four-port external Serial ATA (eSATA) PCI-X host adapter that’s Mac and PC-compatible.
The SilverSATA IV FH sports two independent hardware RAIDs with two pairs of dual FireWire 800 interfaces. You can configure each pair of drives as a hardware-based Level 0 RAID or use the four drives individual (as a JBOD — Just a Bunch of Disks). The four-disk system can hold up to 3 terabytes (TB) of storage capacity; it’s priced from $549 to $3,209.95 depending on storage.
The SilverSATA V UR is a five-bay enclosure equipped with a SCSI Ultra320 connection instead. The RAID controller permits RAID Level 0, 1+0, 3 and RAID 5 or 6. With five trays each holding 750GB drive mechanisms, the system can accommodate 3.75TB storage capacity.
The TeraCard 4-port eSATA PCI-X host adapter card is $159.95. Each port operates on an independent SATA channel. It supports 133MHz 64-bit PCI-X slots and is backwards-compatible with older PCI slots as well. The card supports SATA 2 transfer speeds of up to 3.0Gbps, works with hot swapping and supports Native Command Queuing (NCQ), and works with Mac OS X v10.2.8 or later.
