Sorenson Media on Thursday announced the release of Sorenson Squeeze 4.5, a new version of its video encoding and compression software for Mac OS X and Windows. It’s available in a Compression Suite, Compression Suite PowerPack and version for Adobe Flash for $499, $799 and $249 respectively. Upgrades from previous releases are available.
Sorenson Squeeze is used by video pros to compress videos for use on CDs, DVDs or over the Web. It supports leading video production application formats and commonly used video distribution formats.
Sorenson Squeeze 4.5 is now a Universal binary that runs natively on Intel and PowerPC-based Macs alike. It integrates support for H.264 (Advanced Video Codec, or AVC), for output to MP4 or QuickTime. New 3GPP and PSP presets have been added for cell phones and Sony’s PlayStation Portable, respectively, and new presets have been added for Blu-Ray and HD-DVD.
Compression rates are now two to three times faster than previous versions, according to Sorenson Media, and scaling up or down between Standard Definition (SD) and High Definition (HD) is now twice as fast.
The software can burn DVDs now and menus can be included in the DVD; Sorenson Squeeze 4.5 also reads and writes metadata for QuickTime and other formats.
System requirements call for a G4, G5 or Intel processor, Mac OS X v10.3 or later, 128MB RAM, 90MB hard disk space and QuickTime 7 or later.
