Spiderweb Software has announced the release of Geneforge 4: Rebellion, the newest adventure Role Playing Game (RPG) from the developer of the Avernum series. Geneforge 4: Rebellion costs $28.
The latest installment of an epic fantasy series, Geneforge 4 returns you to Terrestria, a world ruled by Shapers, wielders of magic and genetic technology who have the ability to create life: Plants that will grow in wastelands, monsters that will do their bidding, and more.
You are a rebel sent to fight the Shapers, with your own ability to craft life. But it’s up to you as to how you proceed. Do you do what is asked of you, helping to free other humans and the Shapers’ creation of their subservient role? Or do you give in to the temptation of ultimate power? The game features dozens of different endings depending on how you proceed. Previous experience with the Geneforge series isn’t necessary, according to the developer.
The world of Geneforge 4 is filled with more than 80 areas to explore, populated by several factions, each with their own beliefs, cities and quests.
A demo is available for download. System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.1 or later, 50MB free RAM, 150MB hard disk space and 1024 x 768 resolution. A Universal binary that runs natively on Intel Macs is included.
As usual, Spiderweb has released the Mac version ahead of its PC counterpart — Geneforge 4 for Windows is not expected until 2007.
