OTEE has released Unity v1.6, a new release of its 3D game development and simulation engine for Mac OS X. The new version, a free update for registered users, is available for download now.
Unity can (and has) been used to develop 3D games for the Macintosh, including Ambrosia Software’s Gooball and Big Bang Brain Games, currently in development at Freeverse. Among its features is the ability to create games that operate as widgets for Tiger’s Dashboard software, cross-platform support and more.
Unity 1.6 features an update to the Web player browser plug-in — it can now fully interact with Dynamic HTML (DHTML)-based Web pages. Unity supports Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape and Camino Web browsers/
New collaboration tools have been added, along with support for Windows Vista. Documentation is now searchable. Video tutorials have been added. New audio effects have been added including pitch and doppler effects. Loader screens are now supported in the Web browser. Unity has added drop-in support for .NET libraries, and textures can now be painted.
A free demo is available. Unity is available in Indie and Pro licenses for $249 and $1,499 respectively.
