DEVONtechnologies has released a public beta version of DEVONthink Professional Office, which provides Mac OS X users with e-mail archiving, paper capture and Web sharing document management capabilities. It’s available for $139.95.
DEVONthink Professional Office connects to major e-mail client software and imports messages or mailboxes to a database. Formatting and attachments remain intact. It also installs a plug-in to Apple Mail than inserts archival commands into Mail’s main menu.
Another key feature is integrated support of paper capture, either from flatbed scanners or Fujitsu’s ScanSnap business scanner. ReadIRIS optical character recognition (OCR) software makes scanned PDF files searchable. The ScanSnap’s auto-feeder scanner is recognized when installed.
DEVONthink Professional Office integrates Web sharing, as well — any database can be published on the local network or on the Internet using an interface that resembles a Web search engine. Password protection can restrict access, and Bonjour is supported.
DEVONthink Professional Office requires Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later. The final version of the software is expected to be released in January, 2007.
