The Sudden Motion Sensor (SMS) technology built into some PowerBooks and iBooks and all MacBook Pros and MacBook systems is designed to keep your hard drive from experiencing a head crash if the laptop is suddenly dropped. Jonathan Nathan’s Lilt 1.0 extends that capability by making SMS-equipped laptops able to perform other actions too. It costs $5 to register.
Using Lilt, you can figure SMS-equipped laptops to trigger actions like launching an application, opening a file or executing a script. Wave your hand over a laptop’s light sensor, for example, to play your next iTunes track. Or tilt the laptop back and put your machine to sleep.
Lilt includes a variety of actions including control for DVD Player, Keynote, PowerPoint and other applications, enable Exposé, Dashboard and Front Row, screen lock, speak text, volume control, application switching and more.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.4 or later and a Mac laptop with light or sudden motion sensors. Lilt is a Universal binary.
