CBS Corp. on Friday announced it is resurrecting a classic recording label from days gone by: CBS Records. The new CBS Records will focus on integrating into CBS television series and will emphasize digital distribution, starting with Apple’s iTunes Store.
CBS Records plans to draw new talent from the independent music scene. Artists and songs will be incorporated into programs produced by CBS Paramount Television, which provides programming not only to CBS and other national broadcasters but also to basic and pay cable television channels, including USA Network and Showtime.
The content will be available to download from the iTunes Store and will also be distributed through www.cbsrecords.com and through other “online and wireless providers” to be named later. Some content will also be streamed on CBS’s “Innertube,” an online broadband service available from its Web site. The company also plans to reach out to consumers using YouTube.
