David Benesch has upgraded
with new capabilities, including MPEG-4 transcoding for both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs. The free software is available for download.
TiVoDecode Manager — recently highlighted in
Mac Gems Weblog
— is a free AppleScript interface for the open source tivodecode software that automates downloads of video content stored on your TiVo Series 2 DVR. It decodes TiVo To Go files into MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 files. Features include Bonjour-based discovery of local TiVo units, listing of show, episode, date recorded and other info, batch processing queue and many other features.
Benesch describes TivoDecode Manager as an “unsupported work in progress,” offered to TiVo Series 2 DVR owners as a way to play TiVo files on their Mac “until such time that there is an official way of doing so.”
The new 2.0 update (and subsequent 2.0.1 release, which came out on Tuesday) adds new features like on-the-fly MPEG-4 encoding for both Intel and PowerPC-based Macs; this feature was previous limited only to Intel Macs. Conversion problems and conversion speed have both been improved.
Downloads reliability is “significantly improved.” You can also customize MPEG-4 compression settings. A new detail panel has been added that includes information on actors and actresses, channel, genres, rating, length and recording quality. Growl notification support has been added, along with various other improvements — a
of changes is online.
