Aspyr Media on Thursday announced that its Macintosh conversion of Prey — a first person shooter — has gone “gold master” and will ship by January 16, 2007. The game costs $49.99 and is rated “M” for Mature by the ESRB.
Prey — based on a modified version of the same game engine used in Doom 3 — tells the story of Tommy, a Cherokee garage mechanic who must face an alien menace who has abducted his people and his girlfriend. The trauma awakens in him ancient shamanic powers.
Prey features capabilities such as Gravity Flipping, the ability to walk on walls, “Death Walking,” in which Tommy fights spirits to regain health and spirit energy before returning to his own body, and “Spirit Mode,” in which Tommy can leave his body and sneak up on enemies in spirit form.
In announcing the game has reached gold master status, Aspyr Media has also revealed the game’s final system requirements: Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later, G5 or Intel-based Mac 1.8GHz or faster, 512MB RAM, 2.5GB hard disk space, ATI Radeon 9600 or Nvidia GeForce 6600 or better 3D graphics with at least 64MB VRAM. Aspyr notes that Macs with Intel integrated video chipsets (such as the Mac mini and MacBook) are not supported.
