Blizzard Entertainment on Tuesday announced the release of
World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, the long-awaited expansion pack for Blizzard’s hugely popular Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) for Mac OS X and Windows. It costs $39.99 and goes on sale today in North America and Europe.
World of Warcraft lets you assume the role of a hero from one of many races that populates the war-torn fantasy world of Azeroth, as you go on quests to recover treasure, earn experience and battle monsters. Because it’s all online, World of Warcraft enables you to play along side thousands of other players simultaneously, collaborating with them to complete quests (and, depending on what server you’re on, occasionally battling them as well).
The Burning Crusade expands World of Warcraft’s capabilities by adding two new playable races to the game — the Blood Elves and the Draenei; a new continent called Outland, specifically created for players who want to take higher-level characters to a new level cap of 70; hundreds of new quests and monsters, many new unexplored dungeons; a new Jewelcrafting profession; socketed items and new player-versus-player features.
The Burning Crusade is available in a $69.99 Collector’s Edition that includes a coffee table art book, exclusive in-game pet, soundtrack CD, World of Warcraft Trading Card Game packs and Map of Outland mouse pad.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later, G4/933MHz or faster (Intel Macs supported), 512MB RAM, ATI or Nvidia graphics with at least 32MB VRAM.
