Aspyr Media on Wednesday announced the release of Civilization IV 1.61 Rev. B, as well as a Rev. B release of Civilization IV Warlords, the game’s expansion pack. Both updates are available for immediate download, and are recommended for all users.
Civilization IV is the most recent installment of the legendary strategy game in which you guide a human civilization from primitive stone-age beginnings straight through its development as a technologically sophisticated, space-age empire. You make decisions on commerce, diplomacy, politics and military development that affect the civilization’s development; you raise armies, create wonders of the world, and expand your nation’s borders, establishing trade relationships with other civilizations and more.
This new patch to Civilization IV adds cross-compatibility with the PC version of the game through Gamespy, an online game matching service. Sound errors in the tutorial when playing on Mac OS X v10.3.9 have been fixed, along with a black screen window problem. A crash in the German tutorial has been fixed, the “Fog of War” effect is fixed, terrain issues have been corrected on Macs that use the Nvidia GeForce 7300 graphics chip; and other graphics issues involving Nvidia GeForce 5200 and GeForce 6800 chips have been fixed.
The Warlords update contains more than 100 bug fixes and changes, according to Aspyr.
System requirements remain the same in both changes. These updates are intended for the full versions of the game and its expansion pack, which is sold separately.
