H&R Block on Tuesday announced a bundle deal with Kingston Technology that puts H&R Block’s TaxCut Premium Federal + State 2006 tax preparation software on a customized Kingston 256MB USB flash drive. It costs $39.95, same as the CD-ROM version. Unfortunately, it does not include the Mac version of the software, contrary to a previous report.
TaxCut Premium Federal + State 2006 is available for Mac OS X and Windows users either as an online download or on CD-ROM, but not on the flash drive, as previously indicated by H&R Block. The software provides the ability to prepare both state and federal tax returns and file them. It includes information to help you get deductions, report investment income and get business-related tax savings.
The USB drive that’s bundled with this particular offering is customized with an H&R Block logo. Plug it in to an available USB port on a PC, and you’ll see an installer icon that will enable you to put the software on your PC’s hard drive. After you’re done, you can use the drive to store files, cart projects between computers or whatever else you’d like.
The TaxCut/USB flash drive combination is available from major electronics and office supply stores throughout the U.S. H&R Block offers several different TaxCut products; Premium provides what you need to file a federal tax return; Premium + State lets you file both federal and state returns; and Premium + State + E-File adds electronic filing capabilities. Some states are excluded — visit the Web site for details.
Editor’s note: After confirming with Macworld that the flash drive version of TaxCut was Mac-compatible, H&R Block later indicated that the Mac version is not included on the drive. The article has been updated to reflect this change.
