Mark/Space, developers of the Missing Sync products for PDAs and smartphones, announced Wednesday the release of SyncTogether 1.0, a Mac-to-Mac synchronization product that doesn’t require .Mac or a dedicated server to operate. It costs $49.95 per license, which can be used by up to three computers.
The software works with individuals who have more than one Mac or with groups of people who want to share information. It can sync Address Book contacts, iCal tasks and events, Safari bookmarks, Apple Mail settings and filters. It also works with Entourage 2004, Mark/Space Notebook, Yojimbo and other applications that leverage Mac OS X v10.4’s Sync Services technology.
Because the software utilizes Sync Services, SyncTogether automatically works with applications that also support Sync Services. And it’s a peer-to-peer technology that works without a server. It supports Apple’s Bonjour technology and works over Local Access Networks (LANs); you can also sync together machines on the Internet using IP-based addressing.
You can sync individual Address Book groups and individual iCal calendars, if you’d prefer to keep some information private, and you can add an extra layer of security by password-protecting and encrypting synced information as well. What’s more, SyncTogether supports Automator and AppleScript automation.
SyncTogether 1.0 requires Mac OS X v10.4.8 or later. It’s available now as a download from Mark/Space’s Web site; a boxed CD will be available in the first quarter of 2007 for $59.95.
