Western Digital on Monday introduced its new My Book Premium ES Edition — an external hard disk drive that features external Serial ATA (eSATA) and USB 2.0. It’s available in 320GB and 500GB capacities for $179 and $229 respectively.
The My Book — so named because of its resemblance to a hard cover book when it’s set vertically — is a Mac and PC-compatible drive that includes EMC Retrospect Express backup software and features a blue LED capacity gauge to show you at a glance how much space is left.
eSATA is an interface that provides up to 3Gb/s transfer speeds. It’s not yet standard equipment on any Mac model, but can be added to Power Mac and Mac Pro models using third-party expansion cards. And for users who don’t have eSATA-capable Macs, the drive also features USB 2.0.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3 or later.
