Ambrosia Software plans to release a Macintosh conversion of Introversion Software’s game Defcon in March, according to a new report from the company. It will be released as shareware for $25.
Originally announced as in development for the Mac last November, Defcon is inspired by the 1983 movie WarGames . It’s an online, competitive multiplayer strategy game that focuses on the ghoulish propsect of nuclear annihilation. It’s your job as a general to destroy your enemy’s civilian population while disabling their ability to retaliate and do the same to yours.
This is the third time that Ambrosia and Introversion, an independent game developer based in the U.K., have teamed up to do a Mac conversion. Their first collaboration was with Uplink, a game that put you in the role of a computer hacker. Their second team-up resulted in a Mac version of Darwinia, where you must save the denizens of a virtual world from a destructive computer virus.
Defcon for Mac is in active beta-testing at the moment. Ambrosia hasn’t yet stated system requirements. You can read more about the development of the game at Ambrosia’s Progress Log, or view screenshots.
