Freeverse Software n Thursday announced that its Macintosh version of Heroes of Might & Magic V is shipping. It costs $49.95 and it’s rated T for Teen by the ESRB.
The latest installment in a long-running fantasy-oriented turn based strategy game series, Heroes of Might & Magic V puts you in the role of characters — heroes — who lead armies of men or creatures fantastic and mythical.
In something of a break from the past, Heroes of Might & Magic V was developed by Nival Interactive, instead of New World Computing (the game’s originator). It features a 3D rendered battlefield, new “Active Battle System,” special objectives, side quests and plot twists. Playing involves managing units and resources, using battlefield tactics and elements of role-playing adventure as well.
Heroes of Might & Magic V is available exclusively for Intel-based Macs. It’s the first major commercial game to be released for the Mac that was developed using Cider, a virtualization technology created by TransGaming Technologies made possible by Apple’s switch to Intel microprocessors.
System requirements call for an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X v10.4.8 or later, 512MB RAM, 2GB free hard disk space, DVD-ROM drive and Internet connection for multiplayer.
