Digital media servers? I’m all for them. I already watch most of my TV and movies and listen to most of my music on my computer, so let’s take it to the next step already. At the moment, my desktop Mac serves as the vault-like repository for all things digital and, er, median , but having a dedicated device for that purpose is a pretty attractive option.
The
Asus WL-700gE would seem to be just what the doctor ordered: with integrated 802.11b/g, four Ethernet ports, 3 USB 2.0 ports, a firewall, and a 160GB internal drive, this sucker is ready to go. But as if that weren’t enough reason to shell out for the $250 device, the WL-700gE also has the ability to handle BitTorrent directly through its WAN port. So now you don’t need your computer to download those latest…um, Linux distros.
It’s probably only a matter of time before the content providers get a wind of this, so get it while the getting’s good.
