Delaying the first player for their own nascent standard until October raises some interesting questions. At that date, it’s only a month or so shy of the launch of the PlayStation 3, which will not only play Blu-Ray discs, but also games, and for roughly half the price. Is it possible they’re trying to avoid cannibalizing sales of the next-gen game console? Some people have also suggested that since this listing is for the Sony Style store, and those stores often receive products later than other retailers, that the player’s release date will stick with August, but we’ve got no proof for that at the moment.
One thing’s for certain: if you want yourself a Blu-Ray player, Samsung may be your only option for a while.
